Lately I've read in some art magazines to pay attention to your brushstrokes......seriously?...lol.....OMG!! Brushstrokes? How bout finger strokes? lol. The reason I will never be a fine artist is because quite honestly I have no flippin' idea what a good brushstroke is or how to do one. Where do I find one? I don't think what I do has any kind of technical merit.....lol. I smoosh, smear, wipe and so on. When I do use my brushes I'm not very careful with the application or even their care.....yikes. I guess those articles weren't written for me....but....I do enjoy reading them...lol.

fill your heart with art

Hmn. Deja vu... :)

Brushstrokes? yes. I have heard of it. In classical painting standards, Van Gogh was a vulgar and obscene painter with his brush strokes visually discernible on the canvas. The great painters who made the images jump out of the canvas and still nary an elevated pigment would have shuddered at the sight of Van Gogh's and Chaim Soutine's sloppy brush strokes. Those two prodigal painters. How dare they? Incidentally, they are two of my favorites but of course my all time favorite is Artimesia Gentileschi who successfully painted Judith decapitating Holofernes and still managed to keep her silken gown unsoiled. Perfect strokes, more or less.

I'm glad Yves Klein didn't read art magazines or he never would have made his famous paintings using female models as his "paintbrushes!"

Don't change a thing, girl. Keep those hands of yours messy and free and working their magic.

Another reason not to read art magazines! ;-D
(BTW.....my hands look like yours...heehee!)
We had fingers before brushes, so therefore I think we should use them.
Often.
There is always someone who writes an article to make people *worry* about their technique.
Pfffft!
Just gimme the cheap brushes and something I can smear the paint on. (and a glass of wine too)

XXOO~~♥

They're worrying about brushstrokes? They need to get with the times. Don't they know we use our fingers, our hands, sponges, rags, bags, anything and everything that we can apply paint with? hahaha They need to put THAT in their magazine. Along side your heart paintings (and maybe the photo of your hand, too)!
Love you, Manon!

Manon,

Brushstrokes? Don't even worry about it or question it! I agree with Anne - I don't bother with reading what the "experts" have to say. You are your own truest guide, and in my humble opinion, I think you are just awesome!

Have a great week,
Brian

Manon, you paint beautifully. It's good to read things, it's like arm chair travelling, as long as we are true to ourselves.

That's what's importnat eh?

cheers

Well, I for one think you are one fine artist indeed.

hmmmmm I am so hard on brushes - I find myself working the paint into the canvas - that's why a hard surface is probably better for me...I like what you do - it works...and that's the best! xxooxxoo

Pffft! Brushstrokes smushstrokes. I doubt that sense of strength and passion could come from any fine brushstrokes. Pish.

Your painting is lovely, lovely, lovely! I want her dress with the window to her heart. And heehee! That beauty behind your hand seems to be aghast at how you've besmirched yourself! :D

"We don’t need no stinkin’ brushstrokes!” Your quote from judy Garland says it all! Why be trapped by someone else idea of what you should do when you can be free to be yourself. I think your emotion and raw energy come out in your work. Don’t change or conform. Be the Manon you were meant to be :o) Great work!

I like this piece a lot- brushstrokes or no! I really don't think it's something to worry about- everyone has their own style and methods. In other words, who cares?

Ha ha ha, I am totally with you here Manon. I will use anything to put paint on, finger, sticks cards and a growing collection of palette knives. :)
